![]() ![]() PS: I know Pac-man had a large amount of re-releases and sequels (including the fantastic Pac-man Championship Edition DX) but it never seemed like Pac-man's games beyond the first ever felt 'revolutionary' for their genre in the same way that say Super Mario 64 did. My question is two fold, 1: What elements of Pacman's gameplay have evolved over the years and 2: Would it have been possible for Pacman to evolve its core gameplay and remain relevant similar to how Mario evolved from Donkey Kong to Super Mario Galaxy? Unless I'm missing something, Pac-man's core gameplay seemed to just hit a historical dead end (except for the Pac-man = Survival Horror joke). I was thinking the other day about how gaming has evolved over its history from the arcade and found it weird how it seemed that while many games and concepts managed to translated well over the years, Pac-man did not.įor example, two other highly popular arcade games were Space Invaders (which laid the ground work for the shooter) and Donkey Kong (which laid the ground work for the platformer) which have had their concepts grow and evolve from single screen 2D games to complex 3D virtual worlds. r/CoOpGaming - A community for co-op gaming r/xboxone - Xbox-specific subreddit for general Xbox news and discussion r/playstation, /r/PS4 & /r/PS5 - PlayStation-specific subreddits for general PlayStation news and discussion r/pcgaming - PC gaming-specific subreddit for general PC gaming news, discussion and gaming tech support r/nintendo - Nintendo-specific subreddit for general Nintendo news and discussion r/shouldibuythisgame - Find out what's worth getting. r/gamingsuggestions - Go here to help you find your next game to play ![]() r/gaming4gamers - Discussion, bar the Hivemind Top-level comments must be at least 100 characters in length.Accounts must be at least one month old.External Links must follow these guidelines No topics that belong in other subreddits This subreddit shouldn't be used for advice of any kind.
